What is Separation Anxiety?

Separation anxiety is the recurring and excessive distress of anticipating or being away from parents, loved ones or home. Separation anxiety can manifest in a variety of ways, common ones including nightmares, panic, school refusal, and even physical symptoms of illness such as headaches, nausea and vomiting.

How we can help

Talk therapy, pet assisted therapy and graduated exposure therapy are just some of the methods we use in the treatment of separation anxiety. The focus is to work through methods of reducing the levels of anxiety around separation, developing techniques to assist in the difficult situations and then gradually practising those techniques in real world situations.
